POD Topics in Development

English:

  • Grammar & Mechanics
    • This is a pod that will be offered for grades K-3, 4-6, 7-9
  • English Literature
    • Novel Study Units-grades 4-6, 7-9
    • Cultural Studies through Literature grades 4-6, 7-9
    • History in Literature Grades 4-6, 7-9
  • Drama Fridays
    • Develop a Christmas play to be performed for seniors and families-all grades, some post secondary students
    • Group writing in play writing
    • Prop and costume production would be great but we need facilitators
  • Creative Writing
    • Poetry
    • Short Story Writing
  • Marketing
    • Studies in Rhetoric used in marketing and how to employ those skills in an ethical manner. This is a grade 7-9 program 

English/Social Studies/Philosophy (Cross curricular studies):

  • Formal Writing and Research grades 7-9
    • Exploring bias and motives while researching and analyzing sources
    • Basic Citations, Footnotes, Bibliographies, Annotated Bibliographies, and Works Cited. 
    • Formal formats
    • Structuring your argument
  • Origins (1)
    • Researching the origin beliefs and practices of ancient cultures around the world
  • Ancient Cultures (2)
    • Who are they, why do we study them and how do they impact us today?
  • The Age Of Exploration (3)
    • This course follows Ancient Cultures and studies the diaspora of mankind and the beginnings of geopolitical structures and the analysis of the spread of ideologies (From the beginnings of the spread of Islam to exploration of all of the continents)
  • Renaissance, Reformation, and Revolution (4)
    • This is a geographical, cultural, and philosophical course that covers from studies in the history of the church, philosophical thought, colonization around the world and begins to touch on Indigenous cultural and political relations.  
  • Geography, Climate, and Culture
    • This course has an English component as it requires research and writing. The focus is on the known history of our climate and geography and how that has helped shape cultures as we know them today. 

Sciences-Most science classes are project based and may include field trips which would be outside of the regular pod time.

Agriculture and Environmental Studies would be project based courses and be inherently cross curricular as they would include the Sciences for study and research, English for documentation and reports, and History for researching/analyzing past policies and procedures to evaluate how our community should best move forward.
